My Grand Tour – an automotive “cool-tour” throughout the old continent

A relentless effort for the automotive cultural golden shot

The primary purpose of this website is to provide myself a way to let the steam out from my excessive automotive nerdy. The regular readers of my Hungarian blog may have noted that I care way too much about cars, for the fact that it is not my revenue generating activity.

Since I’m beginning to feel the signs of addiction, after some brainstorming I’ve come up with an idea for a cure: the most obvious way of beating a mental addiction is an overdose. That is, why I embarked on an intercontinental tour to discover the renowned museums of the continent from the Hague to Salzburg and from Turin to Riga.

At the time when Top Gear hosts took a big breath (plus an even bigger paycheck) and launched their very own show with Amazon, they named their project the Grand Tour. With this choice, they honored an established custom of the aristocracy who ventured to discover the old continent and its cultural and culinary delights, usually at the springtime of their life. If you missed the first episode, and you still don’t believe me, take the immortal words of Wikipedia:

“The Grand Tour was the traditional trip of Europe undertaken by mainly upper class European young men of sufficient means and rank (or those of more humble origin who could find a sponsor), as well as young women if they were also of sufficient means, and accompanied by a chaperon, such as other family members, when they had come of age (about the age of 21 years old).”

The old continent is full of great locations for car enthusiasts: national museums and factory treasure chests, as well as private car collections provide an ample opportunity to engage in technical and historical adventures, often paired with culinary indulgences and sightseeing.

In the next few posts I plan to outline a few of those trips. This will also be a trip of discoveries for myself, as I am getting to know the features and possibilities of WordPress.
