Retro Classics Stuttgart opened its doors today and will await visitors until Sunday the 1st March (for further information, visit their website). The event claims to be the world’s largest trade fair for driving culture and given the fierce competition of established classic car shows, that is quite a bold claim.
Retro Classics certainly has the substance to back up its claim, with a exhibition dozen halls boasting a brilliant new expo infrastructure on a total area of around 140,000 square metres. It was also chosen as the “Show of the Year” in the Historic Motoring Awards in 2018. So in the times when car shows go down the drain one after another, this one might just save the day!
Lovers and collectors of historic automobiles, factory museums, historic and classic car clubs gather to showcase their most cherished pieces. The show encompasses historic and classic cars, youngtimers, US and Japanese cars, historic motorcycles trucks and buses, as well as a vast accessory market and highly engaging shows.
The largest Hall 1 is a major focal point with its vast size and a gallery with a selection of classics for sale.
Still, every hall keeps a special exhibition like the Ferrari Museum or the official Auctioneer’s stage.
The most impressive factory stages were provided by Mercedes and Porsche, but also the Mazda Museum brought quite a few exciting cars.
I would draw particular attention to the Mercedes stage, where an expert historian hostess (in a 19th century dress) with really great stories will make sure that visitors spend quality time.
The two (three) Ferrari museums are a pinnacle of automotive passion. They sent a small delegation with a racing simulator.
Alfa Romeo is greeted with a special exhibition to commemorate the 110th anniversary.
In the man hall, there is a truly impressive exhibition of race cars with Gulf livery courtesy of a private collection, the ROFGO Collection. More on that in a few days, because it is really worth checking out!
UPDATE: the report is here:
If the show fulfills its bold claim, I will leave it to you to judge that. Still, even in the case (for whatever reason) you would leave disappointed, Stuttgart hosts two major factory museums, and the Mercedes Museum alone is worth a visit,
