We had a few weeks to digest our photos and memories from the Days of Elegance, and we’d like to share with you our personal favourites. This selection does not follow any objective ranking criteria such as estimated value or performance at past auctions. Most of these cars were not even chosen as winners of the show. But we instantly fell in love with them. For the sake of your entertainment and ours, we strived to maintain balance in terms of epochs, categories and regions.
10. 1954 Alfa Romeo 1900 CSS
The yellow Alfa is an unlikely delegate in this league, but this model received a lot of limelight recently. Its 70th anniversary was honoured by several events, and our favourite occasion was the Zoute Concours 2021, featuring four specimens.
The Alfa Romeo 1900 was a true milestone for the iconic Italian brand, as the marque’s first real production car, built entirely on an assembly line. Following the 1959 amendments of the Italian traffic regulation (yes, there is such a thing 🙂 ), it was the first Alfa Romeo offered with a left-hand drive layout.
It was also the first production car without a separate chassis, giving a hard time to the legendary Italian coachbuilders, who used to provide tailor-made bodyworks for wealthy customers. Nevertheless, they did receive contracts for providing small production high-end versions, some with breath-taking tailor-made chassis.
This yellow 1900CSS featured an unusual yellow colour that we have not seen before, so it was a sure bet for us, albeit at nr 10.
