The oldest car in the 2021 anniversaries list is the oldest car in History. The Benz Patent-Motorwagen is widely recognised as the world’s first production automobile, marking a new era. Well, it’s kind of an automobile… There was a long way from the three-wheeler with a one-cylinder engine and a single-speed transmission to the basics of a modern car layout.
While the Patentwagen was created in 1885, Karl Benz only applied for a German patent in 1886. The car was formally unveiled to the public on 3 July 1886. Mercedes is a pillar of the European classic car world, so it’s no surprise that I keep a notable selection of photos on Patentwagens.
