Autoworld celebrates the 110th anniversary of Maserati

This week, Belgian national museum Autoworld opened its major winter exhibition honouring the iconic Italian brand Maserati. The 100th anniversary of Maserati became an important theme of 2024 as factories and enthusiasts contributed to several car shows and thematic exhibitions.

The exhibition opened on 20 December and awaits visitors until 23 February 2025. The organisers managed to enlist over 40 unique Maserati specimens with the help of Alfieri Magazine, Classiche Masters, ACG Maserati Ghent & Brussels, Cadycars Ieper, and the renowned Umberto Panini Motor Museum.

The ground floor hosts an exquisite selection of postwar race cars up to the 2024 season, the latter of which was escorted by Autoworld’s very own Christmas tree.

The gallery hosts four prewar race cars and dozens of rare and unique vehicles, from classic four-door Quattroporte models to the recent Alfieri concept.

The cars are grouped into periods and model ranges, from the early ’50s to the most recent classic, the 4200.

It is difficult to single out individual cars from this jaw-dropping exhibition, we will come back on that in our next article. Nevertheless, the blue A6G is a safe bet, as it has already won the car of the show award of this year’s InterClassic Brussels.

The Museum also hosts a die-cast exhibition honouring the 80th birthday of Jacky Ickx. You can catch this thematic exhibition in the gallery until 26 January. The organisers brought together an impressive selection of small-scale models and documentation to commemorate the successes of Mr Ickx in several motorsport domains.

He is often credited as one of the most versatile drivers, winning races in motorcycle trials and touring car series, as well as in Formula 1, world endurance, and Dakar. The hundreds of exclusive scale models encompass BMW, Ford, Ferrari, Brabham, Mirage, Porsche, Lotus, Matra, Alfa Romeo, Ensign and Wolf, representing the full range of brands and models with which Ickx made history.

The exhibition also plays on a 1:1 scale, showcasing the Ford GT40 of Mr Ickx in the iconic Gulf livery accompanied by a trial bike.
