One would think the World’s biggest car company would provide all the technical freedom to let the creativity if designers flow freely.
Strangely, quite the opposite was true to the R8, Audi’s first modern supercar (not counting the pre-war race cars, even the very first).
The R8’s layout was already provided by the technical platform of the Gallardo, but the R8 is nothing like badge engineering. The R8 is an unmistakable Audi with not much retro, apart from a few stylistic cues of the pre-war auto union cars. The modernism that transpires from the lining of the R8 shows the versatility of the Maestro.
