An essential pillar of the EMS is the tuning section. Companies showcase exciting specimens, but nothing can prepare us for what is lurking in Hall 5. This chamber is the section for tuners using the standard toolkit for visual pollution.
The hall offered a diverse selection of cars, from classics to 2020’s models, and they all suffered the same fate. First, all the vehicles were slammed (or they used very-very thick carpets: ) ). This rendered a joke even from finer restomods and made sure that most cars in this ugly cars article are from Hall 5.
Then, there were quite a few weird cars, many of which went down as cheap ailing tools, like Corsa B, Trabant or Fiat 600.
We aimed at a balanced offering from all themes in our previous segments, but Hall 5 had no worthy contestants for the ugliest car title.
11. Iron Bugatti statute
The German Giganten aus Stahl (Steel Giants) showcased a statute made of steel that resembled (somewhat) a Bugatti.
Unfortunately, this statute is not very true to life, and if Lego makes more realistic-looking statutes, it is time to move on to other projects…
10. Audi A7 with colour, it just can’t decide…
This green Audi A7 is tuned by an Austrian folia specialist, making it even more colourful than at first sight. The car shows a different shade from every angle, like a rolling rainbow.
9. The chop-top VW Beetle
Another one, where we could not decide if its good or bad.
8. The fastest salmon: Mercedes 190E Evo replica
The guy who built this car was on a budget: Falk Jordan built this 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II replica from a scrapyard car. Now he is touring car shows with it.
7. The Pink 911
We managed to bring you a 911 for every chapter, though we are sad to report that nothing is sacred. Here you are with a creepy pink 911 exacerbated by a wide-body kit.
6. The evil side of an art car painted on a horror C-Class
We certainly have a fable for Art Cars, so we included one in this ugly list. The saloon would surely pass as art these days, but we would only showcase it as Rated R…
5. Rat meets beetle with this Razor Edge VW Type 34 Karman
The VW Type 34 was the successor to VW’s iconic Karmann Ghia. The second generation also earned the nickname Razor’s Edge in England because of its sharper lining, hence the name on the doors.
We still need to decide if it’s bad enough to be good. The 34 was a bit too much for our taste as a classic after the original Karmann Ghia. Thus we are still grateful that the tuners used this model instead of the original Ghia.
4. The superlong W124 Mercedes is the ultimate dachshund
Flat, black and long, this Mercedes-Benz W124 Pullman is the automotive incarnation of a German Dachshund.
Thoroughly redesigned by Lownatics, this car was one of the show stealers of the tuning hall. It was one of the few ctuning cars that made us feel connected with the Tuning phenomenon.
3. A classic Hot Rod from Germany
You could hardly tell, but this car is from a German trader, and they praise this weirdo for its fun factor.
Indeed, it is so weird that it’s actually cool…
2. Pink G-Class from Liberty Walk
Liberty Walk is a Japanese tuner known for its extreme body kits. Flashing a pink Huracan and a G Class is living proof, as these cars are two extremes of petrolhead cars. And the only way to counter so much masculinity is to paint them pink.
The eye for detail made this car so high on our list, like the little pink shovel that multiplies the craze.
1. Belle-Croix Cars gave all the wrong answers: Purple Aston
It’s hard to choose the ugliest in a show like EMS. This car has it all. They took a brilliant and expensive supercar and used every possible means to make this Aston Martin ugly.
Wrong colour? You bet. How about some yellow and gold accessories that would never work with the purple colour. Too much of colours? Why not add some grey with the carbon inlays? Four different shades and slammed wheels, all that on an expensive car begging us to shoot dead to end its misery…
