The Antwerp Concours d’ Elegance proclaimed winners in each category. In some cases, we fully agreed, in others not so much.
Belgium is a secret hotspot for classic Ferraris, thanks to the long bloodline of collectors including nobles and wealthy industrialist families. The selection of Ferraris was more than astonishing.
Against this, the class winner in the category 75 years of Ferrari was the 1968 Dino 206GT Pininfarina. You might have guessed from the number of photos, it was not our favourite in this list, despite the prestigious owner. Given the impressive line-up from the ‘60s, we would rather pick any of those over the Dino. But if we have to choose just one, we would go for the blue 250 Europa.
For the Auto Union, the selection was even more diverse, so we can’t wait to see the winner in this group. We had two favourites, and indeed our second choice won. The class winner of the category 90 years of Auto Union was the green 1970 NSU Ro80.
Our personal favourite was the massive Horch 853 Sport Cabriolet, no doubt.
As for the Porsches, the best Porsche RS was the red 1996 Porsche 993RS Touring. As you can guess from the number of photos, we did not spent a lot of time among the 911s. Nevertheless, the 993 is one of the most sought after models, so we could also accept that choice.
Among these cars, we would probably take home an earlier model, probably a first generation.
The remaining categories will be more diverse as they are not dedicated to a single brand, plus we still have the best of the show for you. If you navigate back to the first article on Antwerp Concours, you will find links to the ones we already published and also to the ones we will publish, once they are out. So stay tuned!
I agree with your choice in the Ferraris. They were so beatifoul in the 60s!
DKW F8 should be F7 😉
Thank you for the comment. Indeed it was an F7, and we corrected it in the article.
