VW shines again in Brussels

0

Volkswagen went through a lot in the past few years. In previous years, their show presence went trough a true transformation, kicked off with a hiatus in 2018 (e.g. no show in Paris and Brussels).

The new design was launched in Frankfurt with a clear emphasis on electrification. Actually, there were hardly any current models in Frankfurt.

Brussels is still about selling cars, so the stage features much less decoration but quite a few actual cars to experience.

Nevertheless, a few catchy concepts build up quite some expectations for the future. The ID. BUZZ CARGO concept is based on the ID. BUZZ concept, with several major updates throughout to transform it into an all-electric workhorse with autonomous driving capability.

Longer than the ID. BUZZ, the new features on the CARGO run from a solar-panel roof and cockpit workspace to high-voltage power outlets for tools. As it’s based on Volkswagen’s adaptable MEB electric vehicle platform, the CARGO is actually slated for production in the near future.

The second concept car was the ID. BUGGY a zero-emissions vehicle for summer, on the beach or in the city, based on the modular electric drive platform.

No longer a concept car, the ID.3 is the first car of the new model range/sub-brand(?).

Unlike all the brave concepts, the ID.3 is almost like a conservative car, which is not so bad in a segment known for a conformist taste.

Audi sported a mid-size stage with a wide range of cars from the product range surrounded by the usual corporate decoration that works well with concept cars and classics alike.

The Brussels stage features a contemporary lineup, a stark contrast to IAA, where a dozen crazy concept hardly left any space for actual cars. The Brussels presence is still about selling cars…

Porsche’s chambers were dominated by the premiere of the brand new Taycan.

The Skoda stage follows a simple but efficient layout, in the spirit of the Skoda Pavilion in Wolfsburg.
