The modern cars are scattered in several corners of the main gallery.
One corner is reserved for the current model range of Ferrari (including the brand-new hybrid 296) and a rare SP2, which is Zlatan’s favourite weapon of choice.
The other end of the gallery is populated with high-end cars of the VW Group.
This latter corner frequently changed throughout the exhibition. During our second visit, we witnessed the staff pushing around the three specimens of the Bugatti Chiron to make space for new cars, including the most spectacular vehicle of the exhibition.
Lamborghini’s single-seater V12 Vision Gran Turismo Concept was designed for the highly popular Gran Turismo 7 video game. This car is based on 2019 Sian FKP 37, also sharing the Sian FKP 37’s hybrid system. The post-2000 cars are parked on a larger stage or scattered in more compact thematic stages. The most extensive set includes a few small-production masterpieces, like the 6 metres long Rolls Royce Phantom DHC Zenith from 2006.The Rolls is a genuinely magnificent mastodon and is still equipped with a rear seat suitable only for children. The Rolls is followed by an ultra-rate Aston Martin One-77, one of the most expensive models of the range (and even their co-2 alibi Cygnet was not that cheap).
The Mercs on this stage are also high-end models, like the modern gullwing, the 2013 SLS and the even rarer McLaren SLR-The compact stages include a trio of Ford GTs, one from each generation (the 60 Le Mans winners, the postmillennial recreation and modern ones from the 2010s).Another stage featured the “holy trinity” of the ex-Top Gear trio, i.e. the LaFerrari, Porsche’s 918 hybrid supercar and McLarens top-of-the-line P1.
Clarkson and his friends kicked off their brand-new car show Grand Tour with the same models (though colours might vary). Finally, a smaller stage in the gallery’s centre was dedicated to Alfa Romeo’s curious Disco Volante, with an ultra-rare original and the new coachbuilt models based on the outgoing Alfa 8C.
So that would be it for now. Autoworld conjured dozens of super-expensive and ultra-rare cars to provide a comprehensive picture of the history and present of the supercar phenomenon. They could still not earn the “if we don’t got it, you don’t want it” badge.
Connoisseurs might easily think of other essential supercars, so much is true. So many that could quickly fill another show… Thus, I hope that Autoworld will develop these supercar exhibitions into a tradition and organise another show next year. If you have suggestions for a next supercar exhibition, feel free to leave your favourite in the comment section.
