Walter De Silva took over Audi’s design department in 2002. The 2004 A4 facelift was one of his first works with the other Bavarian brand (yes, their seat is also in Bavaria).
What makes this facelift brilliant is the total reinterpretation of an existing design simply by retouching the headlights and introducing the single-frame grille.
The original material, the B6 generation A4 was probably the most boring design in Audi’s history, courtesy of Peter Schreyer (who designed iconic Audis like the first TT).
The B7 Audi A4 looks much more dynamic. Despite only a few changes implemented, the facelift managed to accomplish a reinterpretation of the original design.
