Finally, after three years of waiting, the classic car series of Peter Auto returned to Spa with style, and so did we.
In the past 5 years, we have always strived to attend, and we left with lasting memories. This year is no different, as the Spa Classic brought back all the virtues of past events.
In addition, the race track has undergone some major refurbishing with a new dirt track extension and new tribunes along that side, including a brand new one above the iconic Eau Rouge chicane.
The backbone of the 2022 Spa Classics is still delivered by the enchanting Peter Auto series that brings together an unrivalled selection of classics.
This year the event featured most of the Peter Auto categories, notably Porsche 911 2.0L Cup, Classic Endurance Racing 1, Classic Endurance Racing 2, Heritage Touring Cup, Endurance Racing Legends, Group C, Sixties, Fifties and Greatest’s Trophy (you can look up the categories on the page pf Peter Auto).
We visited on Sunday and had a chance to see most of the racing classes, with a stronger focus on Group C.
This category remained our favourite, as their location gave a better insight into the preparations, thanks to the openly accessible main pits.
Insight through unrestricted access proved to be the single greatest attraction of Spa Classic. We get to go places we could never dream of during an affluent F1 weekend. The bar on the top floor of the pit? Check. Access to the paddocks? Check.
In addition, there were several car clubs occupying spaces around the tracks, like the BMW club and the Nissan coupés that occupied the most prominent space last year.
There were several locations by the track reserved for various brands, and we will show them in more detail in an upcoming article to be linked here.
