Retro Classics Stuttgart 2021 cancelled

2021 continues to be a sad year for car shows, Retro Classics was the last car show on earth, and apparently it stays that way for a while…

I really had high hopes for this one. The 2020 edition was quite nice, and proved to be the very last major car show on Earth. The magnificent Retromobile 2020 was organised already under the shadow of a newly discovered virus that was causing sickness on the other side of the world.

I recall checking the news every hour before driving off to France. But it was totally worth it. The three auctions individually had more highlights than some car shows.

From February onwards, going to cars shows involved a certain amount of of extra “thrill”, even if we had no clue about what was coming to us. So I took the risk to see Retro Classics for the first time, that proved to be the last time (so far). Coming home with tons of good pictures and no Covid infection,  the “nerfenkitzel” still paid off.

It was certainly not at the level of Retromobile, or Essen Techno Classica, but that may also have to do with the fact that the pandemic was closing in fast.

What nobody knew back than, was that Retro Classics Stuttgart proved to be the last car show on Earth. During the week that followed, the Geneva Car Show was cancelled just before opening.

In every January, I assemble my calendar as a wish list for the year, and I had hopes for an early recovery from the Pandemic, as some car shows planned an opening as early as in February.

These plans proved to be overly optimistic, and most events tried to regroup to a summer period. Until recently, Retro Classics 2021 was our candidate for the first car show of the post vaccination era. Well… one more dream shattered. So our 2021 calendar needs another reprogramming.
