3. The Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar is one hell of an entry
The best photos of the car show usually featured this car, not just for its fabulous lining but also for the surrounding PSA stages.
Peugeot already smashed the Group C league with the best lining in the ’90s, and they seem to take the same approach now: impress with looks before taking the title. Already in 2019, when the new league was planned for the post-LMP1 era, the company announced its return to the FIA World Endurance Championship, with a clear aim at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the new Hypercar category.
The 9X8 was designed to take full advantage of the freedoms allowed by the new Hypercar regulations. The car’s distinctive aerodynamic feature is the absence of a rear spoiler. This is demonstrated by the very discrete inscription “We didn’t want a rear wing” on the rear edge of the car.
So far, the divergence did not pay back as Peugeot returned from its only race at Monza with rather feeble results. Let’s hope their daring approach will pay back.
strange car, strange concept. I would say it’s a Hopium for the masses, but the price tag will most probably be eye-watering
