The home of Bugatti at Autostadt

VW’s mega automotive expo includes exhibition areas for all its brands, and since 2008, Bugatti is located in the Premium Clubhouse, embedded in the curve of a little hill between the ZeitHaus museum and the five-star hotel.

It is so well embedded, that I could hardly find any good photos on the building in my collection, while its top floor terrace offered a great overview to the neighbouring buildings, including the unforgettable chimneys of the powerplant with the iconic WV Logo.

According the official sources, the pavilion’s shape was inspired by the race track at Le Mans, and the interior of the Premium Clubhouse brings was brought to life by Anselm Reyle’s light installation “Untitled”.

For me the most memorable moment was the one where my trusty DSLR finally overcame the reflections of the mirror walls and the reflective body paint of the Veyron.

In fact, this exhibition hall brings up the greatest challenges for photographers, I advise to approach it with due respect.

In the main hall of the Premium Clubhouse, the exhibition area is accessible through a curved walkway passing under a mirror installation.

Downstairs, a mirror-finish Bugatti Veyron 16.4 stands on a mirrored ellipse, surrounded by mirrors. If you have the feeling of too many mirrors in my last sentence, you perfectly acquired the feelings that my DSLR had when trying to shoot the Veyron… 🙂

The wards explained to me that the mirror finish rendered the Veyron not road legal, and hence it shall never hit public roads. Since then the new Chiron moved in, along with the 1:1 scale model built entirely from Lego bricks (showcased at the Lego stage of the Paris Car Show), it might be worth to arrange another visit to Wolfsburg.

The Autostadt is rather Huge, this is one of the smallest pavilions. I recommend to have a look at the Pavilion of the Lamborghini:

And come back in a few months time, once the big article(s) on the Zeithaus museum is published. If you came to see Bugattis, I recommend a look at the best Bugatti exhibition of all time (or see it yourself until November in Mulhouse):
