Collectors’ stages at Rétromobile round 2: stages with exceptional cars

The second part of the car spotting galore presents the smaller stages built by dealers and private collectors. These corners are about the half-third size of the Girardo stage, but the size is not everything.

From racing legend Ferrari P3 to rarities like a beautiful Siata coupé down to modern cars like a Veyron, these stages often feature multi-million euro fleets.

Movendi paired classics with modern exotics

Movendi is resident at the Classic Remise Düsseldorf, so when planning a visit there, it is worth checking the dates of the most prestigious classic car events.

The Movendi stage offered a colourful mix, and in the red corner, a racing version of a Ferrari Daytona was of course in obligatory Italian red colour.

 

The central stage is occupied by a Mercedes Benz 710 SSK, whereby even a Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse is put to the side.

Such things can happen when you can see cars like the Iso Grifo or the Aston Martin DB2.

William I’Anson

William i’Anson‘s stage focused on race cars, with a diverse background. The most fabulous eye candy was the Williams FW19 Formula-1 race car piloted by Heinz Harald Frentzen, finishing second in the 1997 drivers’ championship.

The fierce-looking Renault 5 Turbo Group 4 participated in national championships, would have finished eighth in the Acropolis rally in 1982, and second in the Greek rally championship.

One would think that a Lancia Stratos in a colourful livery is a guarantee for racing success.

Still, this one is actually a Stradale version used by the cigarette company for marketing purposes.

Ruote da Sogno

Route da Sogno is a classic car and bike dealership in Italy’s iconic Motorvalley.

The two blue coupes make quite an impression, the first one is a Siata Daina Sport aluminium body, with notable racing success, for the short-lived brand.

The other one is a Fiat 8V, from 1956.

Ferrari Vs Ferrari at Tradex

Tradex is a highly cherished Italian Ferrari exhibitor, usually boasting an impressive set of Ferraris, and 2020 was no exception.

The stage featured hardly any decoration, apart from the blue service truck operated by Kremer Racing, which works better than any banner.

The central piece of the stage was a Ferrari 330 P4, that was built for the 1967 endurance season. The car was entered by the Ferrari works team and finished second overall at Monza and Le Mans.

Following its endurance career, the car’s engine and bodywork went through several modifications, to meet the requirements of various series in several continents.

Throughout the decades the car went through several restorations and most recently it was reconverted into the original (Le Mans ) configuration.

The P4 was accompanied by two early classics, a 250MM Vignale Spyder and a 166 MM Touring Berlinetta LM.

There were also two Porsches a 911 ST 2.5 and an RSR 3.0.

High-end racing with fitting decoration at Classic Racing Cars

Peter Classic Racing Cars built a stage with an impressive decoration to showcase three high-end race cars.

The first car on the left was a Ford GT having raced in the Blancpain series, the second car is a Porsche 917 LH endurance race car (with the psychedelic livery).

To complement the endurance trio, the third car was a Ferrari 550 GT.

From here onward I include a few cars that left a lasting impression during the walks at the main hall.

Another 917 was parked in the grand hall (the stage of Les 100 Tours), this one had the legendary Salzburg red colour. Both were speculated to be replicas, as these are unique cars and their circulation is closely followed.

L’Equipe Europe showcased two impressive racing monsters, the Moby Dick Porsche is an awe-inspiring beast harvesting notable racing success. In contrast, the Jaguar XJ12 Broadspeed walked an entirely different path.

The impressive grand touring coupe illustrated the companies aspirations, but also the problems of the British Leyland era.

Four XJ12s were prepared by Broadspeed, with remarkable specs (the V12 developed 560 horsepowers) that made them very quick but they hardly saw a finish line.

Messina Classics brought a few classics, like 80’s poster wall cruizers 959 and Countach. Still, the white Aston Martin Zagato did impress me even more.

Lastly, I leave this art nouveau monster for the readers to guess what it is…

For those who are still in doubt, the car is a Nicola Romeo model, after the founder of the legendary brand Alfa Romeo. The car is baptised El Nandu, and is actually a replica, built by Argentinian classic car specialist Pur Sang powered by a 14,7 litre  Isotta Fraschini aeroplane engine.
