I had the opportunity for a quick visit to the Classic Remise in Düsseldorf this weekend. I saw it for the first time about a year ago, en route to the Techno Classica in Essen and that was a well worth detour. In that post, I already outlined the concept of the Remise (for more info, visit their website), but I also noted that a few dozen (the best) cars were absent as they were showcased in Essen at the Remise’s very own stand or at the resident dealership’s private corners and individual stages.
This time, I again bundled the visit with another programme in the area (more on that later this week), which left me a few hours to walk around admiring an incredible selection of cars. This time, the Remise delivered a complete showcase of cars, and the difference is striking. The majority of glass cases were holding rare treasures, and the main hall was almost full.
The really shocking apect lies not in the numbers, it is the rarity and specialty of some of the cars, from all epochs and regions around the world. If you ever wondered, that the revival of the De Tomaso Pantera starts to render it mainstream (I surely did in Essen and Antwerp this year), here you will find a Longchamp cabriolet. If you feel on overdose of stock classic 911s, you will find more than one 930 Flatnoses, and other special versions, like a 930 speedster.
In the glass cages, you will see a brand new Porsche 918 hybrid super sportscar, parking next to a Volvo P1800 (the “Snow White’s coffin” edition of course), a Merc SLS and a 60’s Alfa Giulia in full Carabinieri outfit, all this in one row.
If you thought you can only see such a combination on children’s shelves in 1:24 scale, never in real life, you will be proven wrong.
For the fans of French cars, there was a lovely blue Alpine, a car that secured the world’s first rally championship title, and can witness now its own resurrection.
It was impossible not to notice the first Luxury SUV from Lambo, that was deemed too thirsty even by the Saud Arabian Military.
As I mentioned a year ago, Classic Remise is a comprehensive service center for classic car owners, but for us mortals, it proves to be an impressive museum, that proved itself again.
